Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport
Meet your guide and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel, located in the charming Old City district of Sultanahmet. Traveling along the old city fortification walls, you’ll learn a bit about this exciting city along the way. The remainder of the day is at leisure; why not stretch your legs with a walk around the neighborhood, then with dinner on your own at a rooftop restaurant. We can suggest several with great views over the Sea of Marmara!

Day 2: Istanbul
After breakfast in your hotel, enjoy the beginning of two full days of private sightseeing with your knowledgeable guide. Today, we explore the Sultanahmet area and visit the Roman-era Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia Museum, the underground Basilica Cistern, and the Grand Bazaar. (B)

Day 3: Istanbul
Private sightseeing continues today with visits to the sprawling Topkapi Palace and its Harem Quarters as well as to the iconic Spice Market,  followed by a leisurely boat ride on the Bosphorus Strait, and, finally, time permitting, a walking tour through Istanbul's winding backstreets. (B)

Day 4: Istanbul / Ephesus / old Greek village of Sirince
After departing from Istanbul in the morning, we arrive in Izmir and begin our drive to Ephesus. In Roman times, Ephesus was the provincial capital of Asia Minor with a population of some 250,000 at the height of its glory. The most significant ruin is the immense theater that holds 24,000 spectators and is still used today. We will walk along the Sacred Way and see an ingenious water and sewer system that was constructed beneath the marble pavement; see the Temple of Hadrian, a Corinthian-style structure featuring the head of Medusa as the talisman to keep away evil spirits; and the Library of Celsus, which once held 12,000 scrolls stored in niches in its walls. We will also visit the newly-excavated Terrace Houses where Ephesus’ wealthiest residents lived.  We will also visit the Museum of Archaeology in Selcuk. Later on, we’ll make our way to the scenic village of Sirince, nestled in the hills amongst lush vineyards and fruit orchards. We’ll socialize with the locals and taste simple but delicious cuisine of the Aegean region, such as yaprak sarma (stuffed grape leaves), biber dolmasi (stuffed peppers) and other zeytinyagli mezes  (olive oil-based appetizers). We will also have the opportunity to try the town’s famed fruit-flavored wine.  We’ll settle into the peaceful country surroundings here in Sirince for the night. (B)

Day 5: Sirince / Sultankoy/ Gulet embarkation in Fethiye
On the way to Fethiye, we will stop at Sultankoy, where we learn about local rug-making processes which include silk extraction, dyeing and weaving. Then, we will break for a fresh and organic al fresco lunch with ingredients from Sultankoy’s farm and orchards. Our final stop of the day will be in the town of Selcuk, where you may visit the Museum of Archaeology.  In Fethiye, board your private gulet, where you will be welcomed by your smiling captain and crew that will attend to your every need. You’ll also be briefed on your itinerary and have an orientation to the ship. Dinner onboard and overnight in a peaceful, hidden cove.  (B, L, D)

Day 6 & Day 7: Gulet Voyage around Fethiye Bay
Spend two full days (and three nights) aboard the gulet, admiring the natural beauty of the Turquoise Coast, while spending your days swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, reading, hiking onshore, and dining on fresh homestyle meals served on the open deck. Other stops during our Blue Cruise will include islands, coves and bays around Gocek: Agalimani Cove, Tersane Cove, Bedri Rahmi Cove,  Cleopatra’s Sunken Baths, Domuz Adasi, and the Yassicalar Islands. There will also be a fascinating onshore excursion to the former Greek village of Kayakoy.  A thriving town of 3,500 until 1923, when Ataturk instituted the exchange of Greek and Turkish populations, Kayakoy became a ghost town virtually overnight, and ruined over the years by subsequent earthquakes. (B, L, D – both days)
